  2. How ironic, today I invited my niece over to watch my new DVD "The Vampire Curse." Over 3 hours of the Barnabas story line. After I brought her home, she called me to tell me of the terrible news, I wept a little and thought how this day had become a tribute to Jonathan Frid. I had also posted last night how Dan Curtis should have done a sequel to House of Dark Shadows many many years ago. Jonathan Frid, thank you for the many hours of pure enjoyment of your portrayal of Barnabas. My condolences to all who loved him, he will be missed. PS: I was fortunate to meet him as well as Lara Parker, K. L. Scott and so many of the cast in 1993 in New York.

  4. I am one of those many fans that ran home every day to watch Dark Shadows. I credit the show for keeping me out of trouble after school. All of you were amazing on the show. I am 58 now & will always enjoy reliving those days of the show.
I was very moved by your comments as well as those of Katheryn regarding Jonathan.
    Thank you.

  6. I offer my condolences to all who knew Mr. Frid personally. What a lucky circumstance to have been a friend of his. Count me among those whose heart is broken. But it is harder to be left behind than to cross over. Somehow I have a feeling that he is pleasantly surprised to discover the all the love that awaited him on the other side.

  7. Words cannot express the grief that washed over me when I
learned of Jonathan's passing. I was another of the many avid viewers of the original show. I had a very hard time understanding that he had died because, after all, Barnabas is immortal! He always will be immortal in the hearts of fans and loved ones.

  8. After the 2006 Dark Shadows festival, while getting ready to leave the hotel on a Monday morning, I was carrying as many bags and suitcases I could muster, I was a pack animal. As I struggled out of the elevator, there was Jonathan Frid and his entourage! Jonathan took one look at me and remarked, "You look as though you are ready for your last Hurrah!" He had me, I didn't know quite how to respond. But it was the most perfect line I ever heard. God Bless You Jonathan

  11. Thank you, Lara Parker, for that lovely, warm and tender tribute to the actor we all loved. Your personal portrait made him so real for me, and made me feel better about his passing. Thank you!

  12. Thank you Lara for that touching tribute to your friend Jnoathan Frid.
I don't mind saying that I am envious of the friendship that you both had, and hope that he will always be remembered by those of you who knew him personally, and those of us who did not, but, cherish always the fine human being he was that brought so much joy to our own personal lives...that he probably did not realize.
Thank you Jonathan for all you gave to us, I will never forget you.....for you changed my life in so many ways....thank you for that.

  13. Your words on Jonathan Frid's passing are truely a tribute and even a thank you note to Mr. Frid himself. How many would be willing to say that someone slipped them just the right bit of information to make a character come alive.... "she's a witch" Thank you for giving us a behind the scenes insight to the "teacher" in Mr. Frid. It seems from many of his statements that he would have preferred teaching to acting. I wonder just how many he taught on the set of Dark Shadows and in tv land? Perhaps his wish to teach came true and he just didn't know it. Thank you again for the tribute.

  14. What can I say, other than, Jonathan...you are now truly an immortal.
You will be eternally remembered for what you have left us, and for the warmth of feeling that you put into doing it all.
Thank you for the experience you gave us and for enriching our lives...just a little bit more.

Also, I would like say thank you to you Lara, for the touching tribute that you gave about your friend. It is good to know that he was so loved by so many.

  15. i was entrenched in the last 2 dark shadows dvd sets when the news about jonathan was published.i felt an immediate sense of loss but continued to watch the rest of the series.
my earliest memories about 4 yrs old in 1968 were cringing behind the couch being scared of barnabas and being enthralled at how beautiful lara parker was.and still is.
rest in peace jonathan you affected us all

  16. As many,I use to run home from the school bus to watch Dark Shadows...I was adopted so the story line about Victoria Winters facinated me beyond belief. But you Lara Parker were both captivating and
haunting and terrifying to my 13 year old imagination. So many times I wanted Angelique to get hers and the one time you did...I cried at the thought you'd never be on the show again and I'd never see you again... so much for my nieveity [I'm a rotten speller] What did they do to make your beautiful eyes so big?I miss those good old days and I'm sad Jonathan has died. You did write a very nice memorial to him.But perhaps ...as Barnabus he's relieved...no more witches...finally...Small smile

  19. Thank you for this, beyond that magnificent, resonant voice of Jonathan's and your own sterling and compelling artistic performances, you each gave everything any audience could ever want and so much more! 20. Hi, Lara; These photos are so sweet, and are good to see. In October of 2009 I began to watch the original Dark Shadows and completed all episodes and special features, as well as the first film, last month. I so look forward to seeing the new film. I was a child when Dark Shadows was first on, but I didn't see it then. It's been so fun to catch up with it!

The loss of Jonathan has been very sad. The more I've learned about him over the past three years, the more I know I would have liked him.

The main reason I'm here is to say that on Saturday I went to Barnes and Noble and saw that Angelique's Descent is back in print. I snatched that right up, because I've been wanting to read it for awhile. I'm on the fourth chapter, and find it not only fun and fascinating, but also, very well written and evocative. I look forward to reading your other books.

I'm planning to be at Dark Delicacies on Sunday. I hope to be able to meet you and thank you for giving of your talents and making life more fun!

    Take care,
    Chris

  24. Love the pictures!
I just saw the new movie and had to tell you that I miss the class and elegance of the first Dark Shadows! I also missed you as Angelique! You were class, Eva Greens representation was trash! So sorry but I had to tell you the truth! Nobody will ever beat the original cast. You guys' cameo was awesome tho! The highlight! I enjoyed the 'nods' but won't go see it again! I will just enjoy my DVD collection! Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for all the wonderful Dark Shadow episodes!! Debbie

  25. I think its an honor you all knew him so well! I wish I had met him....I grew up watching you and Mr Frid as well as all the wonderful actors/actress's. I am now 54 yr old woman who still watches the vhs. I have all 200 plus the extras. I feel with your words it brought tears to my eyes. When I heard what happened, I cried. I grew up with all of you and I feel like you all are a part of my family. I am so saddened by this. Thank you for writing such beautiful words. Love Cindy

  26. Yes,I was totally heart broken learning the news of Jonathan Frid's passing. How appropriate for him to pass on Friday the 13th and so sad he was unable to see the opening of the film.I must say tho as a child I never missed an episode of Dark Shadows.I would be swimming in the pool during the summer and would get out to watch the show at 4PM EST.My cousins and entire family are big fans of the show.I cannot imagine having a VCR back then.I would have watched it repeatedly and could care less about the mistakes of mishaps.I was totally into the story and cared about Barnabas even tho I loved Angelique, just goes to show you do not mess with a woman scorned lol.Any way,I just came back from seeing the movie and I feel Johnny Depp did a brilliant job portraying Barnabas Collins..But no one can hold a candle to Lara Parker playing Angelique..The intenseness of it all.I do recall going to catholic school and the Nun saying this show is not to be watched.I went home devistated and did not know what to do,I was only 11 yrs old.Paying attention to the Nun or should I continue to watch Dark Shadows..What a dilemma.I told my Mother what the Nun had said and she said I pay your tutition, you can watch what you want.Luckily I had an opened mind Mom,who also just passed early this year.I feel bad for Jonathan Frid that he was so beloved that possibly he was type cast in the rold of Barnabas Collins.I am just happy this show, these actors, these character were part of my childhood.I truly loved this show.I did meet some of the cast of the show but never Jonathan Frid.I repect him as a artist and the creatived actor he was.May God Bless xo He will be missed

  30. Ms. Parker, I'm a paralyzed Viet Nam veteran, "Dark Shadows was a one of a kind show that sparked my interest in the paranormal, I had been regarded as a no-nonsense type of individual. after almost dying a couple of times, my interest have intensified. God bless everyone thereYou are a most stunning lady, like so many other men, I too had a crush on you, My soon-to-be-wife will probably choke me for that she is my dream lady, and she knows it. I have been very fortunate for her to have me. not too many women in the world like her. Anyway, getting back to this I hope my family will get me your book, I am fascinated to see your thoughts and get some insight of this series. I thank you for your time.
